Great Falls School

Dear Parents,

Due to the increasing number of students with severe allergies to foods and other products that are life-threatening, we are asking you to review with your child the allergy policy and procedure located in the school handbook. We are asking for your co-operation in speaking with your child regarding the importance of NOT sharing food with others here at school or on the bus in order to avoid inadvertent exposure to a food which could cause a severe allergic reaction.  An allergy safe table is available in the cafeteria to reduce the risk of exposure to known allergens.

For students in grade 6-12, parents must not send in snacks intended to be shared with an entire class which may contain obvious nuts, peanuts, or peanut butter. For students in grades K-5, only pre-approved curriculum-based foods will be allowed for sharing with an entire classroom and will only be offered in cooperation with individual student allergy and health care plans. We appreciate your help in this matter. Please contact your school nurse with any concerns.

We encourage parents of students with allergies to meet with their school's Nutrition Department personnel to review the menu and food items that are being served. For more information, please contact the Nutrition Department office at (207) 222-1375.

Sincerely,

Gorham School Nurses
