Recording our mystery tree in the winter. Writing down our observations about the bark and what we noticed, as well as looking through books again to make a guess as to what type of tree this tree might be. Later we will ass a summer observation when trees begin to show buds. We also have a spot saved for drawing the leaves and matching these to samples we ordered through DonorsChoose.org and our kind donors.
Choosing a tree with a partner. Looking through to find bark that may match.

Choosing a tree right in our school yard before we read about trees in other places.

These scientists have a bark sample they think matches. Spring will give them some more data to match.

“Mosaic Names”
The third graders at Great Falls read the story Chrysanthemum, by Kevin Henkes, and discussed the meaning of our names. Then we created these art pieces to illustrate the importance and individuality of everyone’s name. They will be on the large bulletin board at the beginning of our wing - check them out!
